Just found my old Razo shift knob. It's nothing special but at 103 grams its about a third of the weight of the stock knob in my MS3. I'll be damned if it didn't improve the feel of the shift! The shifts just feel smoother and less notchy. This knob is a bit smaller and doesn't have as much girth, but it certainly get's the job done.

What kind of knobs do you all use?

I wish. But someday... maybe. I love pistol-grip shifters. But before I go with CF, I'd try my hand carving one out of a very light wood.

Hm... this gives me ideas.

Wait, so you went to a lighter one? My friend had like a 300g one in his miata. When i was swapping it out for him i was shocked how heavy it was. He semi joked, saying its the reason why he couldnt find gears sometimes.... (maybe his short shift kit didnt help either). But i would think heavier would make it smoother, and less notchy.

But here is my knob -_-

Im partial to the feel of cow skin when i reach for my knob.....

Hmm. You would think with the added weight the heavier one would be less notchy. But it seems like the shifts are more accurate with a lighter one. I dunno, the heavy knob seems to sort of give it a numb feeling. The difference between working with a small hammer vs a rubber mallet.

You have a really nice knob BTW. I heard the black ones are a bit bigger.

I had the same exact knob in my last car!

Well i think youd be right. He had trouble finding gears and stuff. So definitely not accurate, and probably rather numb.

Was a knob change on the 3 simple enough? My sister wants to get a new knob for her 3 hatch. I havent bothered to search the internets yet haha.

lol @ big and black...

Really easy! I think your sister will love a new knob in her hand!

I'd be a bit nervous using that knob. I tend to put my hand on the left side of the knob while accelerating so I am naturally always moving the shifter away on upshifts, and avoid shifting into the wrong gear.

I spent three days looking for a good OEM Honda knob before I realized that having a metal knob wouldn't be much fun in 100+ deg. F weather in a car that is stored outside.

So I just use the stock leather knob.

Lighter knob? I'm more preferable to a heavier knob, I replaced the stock knob in my evo with a 510g one. I absolutely love it, feels so much soother.

Every person likes their knob a bit different. When you find that knob though, no other knob will do.

This is the same as my shift knob. It is a heavy cheap chunk of plastic and what came in my car when I purchased it. I have tried other knobs and lighter ones and I always come back to this. The weight actually makes it much easier to shift in my car (very short/heavy/notchy shifts) than with a lighter knob. I think it gives a little more momentum to get into the next gear. I think next on the list is a shifter extension but I am having trouble finding one for a bmw.

I have the Cobb knob on my ms3. I like the way the knob feels in my hand and the different ways I can grip my knob.

I have the FD2 metal knob and nearly branded my palm with the shift pattern, a la Raiders of the Lost Ark guy.

Kinja'd!!!

Fished out an old dirty sock to cover it, and it's still in the car for hot days. Unwashed.

I'm a knob snob. It would've been different if my car came with a decent knob, but the OEM one was made of creaky plastic and had to go.

I have several Momo and Honda OEM knobs that I palm, stroke, and twiddle with daily ... even if they're not actually attached to a car.
